Vegetable Garden
Home vegetable gardening is very rewarding and satisfying for you and your children.
Choose a spot close to a water supply for convenience and plant them where you can easily monitor for pests and the health of the garden. Determine your likes and start your plants from seeds. The soil should be very fertile and well draining so that water never puddles. The garden must have at least six hours of full sun each day in order for your food crops to mature properly. Location, location, location. Plan, Prepare, Plant. Timing is everything when harvesting homegrown vegetables. Pick your vegetable at their peak. Don’t pick them too early or the flavor will be lacking or if too late, they will be starchy, bitter-tasting produce and may have insect damage, too. So don’t ruin a season’s worth of time, money, water, and best of all, homegrown vegetables.
Do not use pesticides on a vegetable garden once the plants have fruited unless it becomes an absolute necessity, and be sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. Once you have harvested your crop, put the spend plants and other vegetable matter into your compost pile so that it can be recycled into you garden the following season.
