Start Recycling or Pay

Every New Year's many of us make resolutions. One of mine is "to live with less clutter". So our whole family cleaned up the back yard and packed some other junk around the house and hauled a full pick up truck to the Miramar Landfill. What a New Year's surprise! The Refuse Disposal Fee was increased from $12.00 to $30.00 dollars of 01/01/09.

The landfill is getting filling up as we speak, so be kind to our environment and community. We need to reduce our waste and recycle as much as we can to improve our environment.

Best Time for Landscaping

New Landscape page launches. Just in time for summer entertaining. Did you know that fall is the best time for renovating your yard and do all planting? And why is that? Because by planting this time of the year, the plants have better chance of surviving than the ones planted in middle of a hot summer. This gives them time to get settled in and establish good root growth.

In general, trees and shrubs may be planted whenever the ground can be worked, which in many parts of the country is year-round. But if your climate has severe winters, it's best to plant trees and shrubs after the snow melts and temperatures are likely to remain above freezing. If you live where winters are mild or summers are hot and dry, fall planting may be your best bet.

Another reason to do landscaping during the off-season is that you will have better services and prices. The off season usually is late November thru February. Landscaping and construction is in less demand because of weather conditions and the holidays. Everybody wants to get their landscaping done in the spring or summer time but the smarter homeowner starts landscaping in the fall. The green secrete is that you get more for your money if you start now.

In my experience, many times customers have no idea that landscape contractors are working on several jobs at a time and are between jobs and sometimes hard to reach because of their workload. Like anything else, plain supply and demand. Landscape design and construction are first come first served basis, so depending on the workload you may have to wait up to two to three months or more. Which means, if you want to enjoy your outdoor, you'd better start now.

Do you know how long it will take you to get that landscape services completed? So there's first consultation, design, estimate, decision making, permit, finding contractors, etc. All of these can take up at least three months. So let say if you start consultation today, it will be done before the spring. Oh, one more thing, if you start landscaping this time of the year you will get better services from the contractors and quicker turn around design plans and your plants will do better. So why not consider doing your long overdue landscape project now.
